Why do people do this?

Advertising their car deliberately in the wrong section. For example, if I'm looking for a Golf GTi I have made a conscious decision NOT to look at friggin' Golf diesels (oh, its a GT I'll fool someone looking at petrol GTis ?!?), or Polo GTis. This isn't bl00dy eBay!

On the same note - why do 90% of people listing in "Sheds" feel the need to put "NOT A SHED" in the title?

On another note why when I search for a car under price first do I get a pile of cars at say £440 which then say they are £4400 when I look at the ad.

I think it is because some advertisers are idiots.

The Bmw section of the classifieds does my head in on this site.Why do traders put modern beemers in the E21 & E30 sections ??? Maybe Garlick can put someone on this in the office...

A common one, but people who put a mileage at '120' when it is 120,000 but want it to fall into a lower mileage search.

I regularly check the swiss version of autotrader and their website very rarely (if ever) advertises cars wrongly. Even things like searching for a Mercedes and typing the name of a tuner like Brabus or Carlsson in the keyword only returns properly converted cars, not a bunch of C180's with afrermarket alloys. Their website must use VIN numbers or something along those lines to list the cats correctly. Can't be that difficult for our classified websites to do the same.

i know it's not a BMW, but wow now it's come up in the results yeah I've changed my mind, how lucky was I that some clever chap put 'bmw' into a Skoda ad else I'd neeeeever have stumbled upon this!

I stopped using Autotrader because of things like what's been listed above so far.

Sadly PH classifieds are going much the same way and I can see no reason for this to be the case.

Probably because AT advert costs less if the car is under 1k , think it's quite a big difference aswell

I also deliberately ignore adverts where the seller has done either of the above. Dear sellers - not big, not clever.

It's worth reporting ads like that to ebay- there is a category for misleading titles.

The other annoying "trick" is putting "[better model] replica" in the title.
No, sticking M3 alloys on a 316 does not make it an M3 replica, and the same goes for sticking a load of tat on a 1.2 clio and calling it a V6 replica. Even if they did look the same as the real thing, what is the possible use of having something which doesn't have the go to match?

What annoys me is on Autotrader when you for example search Ford Mondeo and it comes up with an advert that says "Sorry Ford Mondeo has sold but we also have a Vauxhall Corsa for sale" I don't want a fking Corsa, I want a fking Mondeo.

Here's another; people who use the phrase 'fully specced' or 'every extra' and it's got everything that was standard and not an option in sight.

I also notice alot of people seem to put similar cars in a certain model-dedicated page instead of the 'other models'

I.e. a suzuki ignis along with all the swifts. or a Mazda 323 along with all the Mazda 3's.
