£2k, what car?

At the minute I have a UKDM Integra Type R however my situation is soon to change and I'm going to be carless and living in a house with no driveway/garage. My journey to work is about 12 miles each way but as I won't be car sharing any more I'll probably start taking the train.

My dilemma is that I'm due to come into a bit of money but as I'll only really be using the car at evenings and weekends, I can't seem to justify spening a lot on a car that I won't really use that much. With that in mind, I think I've come to the decision that I should spend about £2k on a car and leave the rest in the bank for a rainy day.

So PH, any suggestions? The MX5 is the obvious choice, and one that I'm seriously considering, but anything else out there? As much as I hate to say it, I'm not really all that bothered about speed anymore but I would like something a bit interesting. It can be anything from a 4 door saloon to a 70's sports car, just don't let me end up in a generic French hatchback!

I don't know why, but something from the 80s really appeals to me. Maybe cause I'm 25 and didnt get chance the first time round?

Not really that keen on hatchbacks if I'm totally honest, not sure why really.

Another for the MR2 - you could find a decent tubby for that money.
BMW 328i Sport - Great engines, great looks, reliable and won't depreciate!
Subaru Impreza - falling into this price bracket now, image creates problems for some but nevertheless they are great cars if looked after!
BMW E30 325i - Great to drive, look fantastic!

these are lovely cars , as long as the cambelts/vis motors/fan motor have been done......
have a 76000 mile one with all the above and more done to it , love it to bits - not that fast but reasonably economical (30ish) vv nice to drive and v cheap (£1500ish) thinking of selling mine at some point , need an estate for the dogs......

Having previously had an MG TF I'm actually strongly considering a ZT. Looking at the classifieds they look like a bit of a bargain!
