Air bubbles in tinted windows

I have just paid to have the rear windows tinted on the wifes XC90 and following the hot spell of weather this weekend, there are a few air bubbles that have appeared in one of the windows.

Looking a bit closer, it looks as if it where there are a couple of specks of sand or grit in the film

The question is, does this window need to be re-done or can I simple peel it back, pick out the grit and then somehow stick the film back in place.

I know that I should be going back to get it re-done but it was done at 'mates rates' and the place was 40 miles aways so it will probably cost £20 in fuel anway if I take it back!!

Any thoughts?

If you can't live with it it will need to be re-done. The process of fitting them is a bit more complicated than just peeling off the backing and sticking them on, so peeling it off and trying to fix it yourself is unlikely to end well!

It is possible to carefully prick the film with a needle to disperse the air then press the film down around the dirt particle.

That's what I'd try. But be very careful about it because if it doesn't go well, you don't want it to be obvious if/when you do take it back!

£20 for 80 miles is almost as brutal as my fuel bill, well done

was it done by a mate, or for mate's rates? If the former, you'll have to agree what to do between you. If it's just done for a discounted rate to sort the deal, the fact is it's still not up to satisfactory standard, so should be redone (if you can be arsed to drive back that is). £20 fuel on a 25k+ car is worth it to me

The film will need stripping and re-tinting, there's no other way to resolve it... I've been tinting cars professionally for over 10 yrs, if your in the midlands then I can sort it, if not take it back to him.

I am in Nottingham and it is just the rear side window on an XC90 - is this something you can help with?

It certainly is but I'm closer to b"ham. I guess it would cost you £20 to get there too. Bring your next car to me and I'll make sure it's right 1st time.. Lesson Learnt by going with the cheap price I suppose?
