Yet another what car - auto but good

Hi all,
I know we are all bored with the 'what car for me' threads but I need some advice from the PH brain bank.
For the last few months I have been getting a lot of pain in my knees and it has recently been diagnosed as ostioarthiritis so it isnt going to get any better, I can take measures to prevent it getting worse and to ease the pain but it wont get any better (so I am told). I currently drive a 56 plate Impreza WRX which I love but the clutch does cause me a fair bit of discomfort at time, especially on longer runs with plenty of gearchanging, the sort of drives the Impreza is especially good at in the Scottish hills.
So bearing all that in mind, I am looking for a car change but something that will be friendlier to my left knee while still being able to drive quickly and with a similar amount of fun as the Impreza, it will need to be automatic or semi automatic with flappy paddles (to coin the Top Gear phrase) but sporty/responsive.
2 cars have sprung to mind so far, VW Golf R32 DSG or the VW Scirocco 2.0 TSi GT DSG, but looking for other suggestions (and please, no light blue 80's 3 wheelers

I have heard that Honda have some kind of similar box for the Civic Type R, but I dont know anything about it.

As good as Merc auto boxes are, I still think they compare poorly to the VW DSG.
I went from a w211 e320cdi auto (5spd) to a mkv r32 DSG and the box is superb.
The Golf will feel heavy, understeery and a bit wooly after your Subaru but they're pretty subtle, comfy, sound good and still quick-ish.

Fabia vRS / Polo GTi / Ibiza Cupra all use the 180bhp 1.4 TSI and DSG with paddles - can be had new or nearly-new for about that money. They remap well too, apparently.
Honda don't have any kind of auto for the CTR. There's a horrible i-Shift robotised manual for the cooking models, and they introduced a conventional torque-converter auto for the 1.8s a while ago too.
