I know a fantastic place, but it's the latter. The Stafford Hotel:

There are a couple of nice ones down in Mayfair if you walk down Picadilly towards Park Lane, on the right, down near White Horse Street

I don't think that those 3 have outside seating. I do love the Lamb burgers in the Market Tavern though.. Hmmmm

Not many pubs with beer gardens around Piccadilly Circus!

My suggestions would be:

• The Trafalgar Hotel: http://www.thetrafalgar.com/tag/vista-rooftop-bar/

• Pavement drinking in a few pubs in Soho (Blue Posts, one in Golden Square)

• Cross Keys in Covent Garden (Endel Street)

• Red Lion, Duke Of York Street (off Jermyn Street)

• Ye Grapes, Shepherds Market

Or head across the river to South Bank.

Shepherd Market's 3 pubs all have standing room only outside.

L.Square, A.B.O is an option.

This used to be my area as Licensing Officer for Westminster.

Stafford is great.

Shepherds Market will be very crowded.

Lancaster Court is lovely, but doesn't get much sun - some great restaurants in there.

The Trafalgar is nice, but can be a bit drum'n'bass at times.

The Shakespeares Head in Caranby Street is good for people watching.

Zebrano's does really good micro brewery beer.

It is a long list, depends what you are after.
