Hey guys,

A few friends and I will be graduating university at the end of next year and are looking for something to do before everyone goes their separate ways.

As car fanatics we have always had our eyes on travelling with a car rally, and were considering the mongol rally.

Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this or any other rally and what you guys thought of it?

Thanks

Ian

just found out some rallies are more for charity than others, think we would rather do a charity orientated one if possible.

I did the mongol rally back in 2007 when it was more charity orientated.

It changed the year after into a business (which is fair enough), but some of the original team took umbridge to the fact that money was being made from the people taking part and so they set up a separate rally at http://www.charityrallies.org/

If you want to do it more for the charity side of things then I would say go with charity rallies, but whoever you go with, you'll have a fab time.

Yeah she did it the same year as me. She'll be along in a minute to tell you how good SJ's are, please don't listen to her.

I did mongol rally in 2008, in a mighty triumph acclaim, sj's are just crap, my mates is still in russia somewhere.

did the mototaxi junket last year, that was shorter but harder than the mongol

Also interested in doing a Scumball style event later on this year.

Car will be a 318/323i or Omega with welded diff whistle and some wacky decals.

Interested to hear if they really are worth it and are as good as advertised ?

we are ideally keen to do it in a car of our choice (rather than the seemingly very strict rules on what you can take)...possibly drive there and back (taking short but different routes for going and coming)..saves the flights too!
