help with insuring second car

I asked recently for advice buying a fast car cheap (fast for five hundred thread) I've managed to find myself a nicely priced Alfa 156 V6 for use as my second fun car (boring diesel for the commute) but I've just been shocked by how much insurance will be. I've got an Admiral single car policy and I phoned them up to ask about a multi-car policy, just got told I can only use my NCB on one car at a time! I must forgot all those years of experience when I drive my second car.

The quote I got for my 206 1.9 non-turbo diesel and the Alfa was £710 in one go or £860 if I pay monthly. I've just convinced my OH that I can afford a second car, but I didn't think insurance would be this much, even with man maths I can't justify it.

Does anyone know where the best place to get a limited mileage policy for the Alfa would be? Only thinking of doing around 5000 a year in it.

Sorry but if your worried about paying that much to insure 2 cars when in reality, thats not alot for insurance on 2 cars at all then how can you be sure you can afford to run and maintain them both aswell especially when one is an old Alfa which you must know is going to need stuff replacing even with limited driving.

I'm sure there are companies out there that will mirror a NCB for a second car, as long as the mileage is fairly limited. May have been direct line, or try a broker?

direct line was £250 fully comp for the GTA (that was last yr though)

I do all my own work myself and get trade discount through work on parts so maintainance isn't too much of a worry.

I know insurance has really gone up recently
