Senna: Beyond The Speed of Sound

Just got a huge surprise present from an F1 friend today. Dropped off a copy of the Senna film and assured me there is no way to get through this film without tearing up. Hoping it does the great man justice.

I watched it yesterday ill be honest i had full on man tears with the onboard lead up to the crash fantastic film and i dont think Prost came off as bad as some have made out .

I've cleared the house, sent the Mrs out with her friends for the evening and will watch this in my racing seat. Admittedly I am delaying watching it to avoid the waterworks..

I think i'll be ordering a copy of the DVD, i do not think i can bring myself to watch it in the company of others; watching Senna, and remembering his crash is about my earliest memory of my Dad getting me up at obscure hours on a Sunday from the age of 5 onwards to watch F1. I think watching the film will reduce me to an emotional wreck; as it's something i wish i could have watched in the company of my old man.

Why, i've got a recaro spg that i've got on a stand for playing computer and for extra seating when there's friends round. It's comfier than a couch IMO so why ever not?

It's pretty good, certainly moving. Without wishing to throw myself to the wolves and blaspheme where few dare, I can't help but feel it's somewhat overhyped though. It's a lot of well edited archive footage trimmed and chopped to make it a documentary at the end of the day. I also think it misses out on some of his best racing and some very important bits, and find the way it portrays him a bit too fawning really if I'm being totally honest.

It's got a few great moments though which made it worthwhile for me, but really I think my OH (someone who's only recently seen her first F1 race) will get more from it than me.

It is an odd thing to say though.

Akin to guys dressing up in racing suits and helmet while playing racing games, albeit toned down a fair bit.

Anywhere I live or work there is now a race seat sitting in front of the tv so makes perfect sense. I despise television, nave neither domestic or cable channels so unless we are racing or have selected a film to watch they are never turned on, time far too precious to spend it watching tv I think. And no, 420am and still haven't watched it..
