Is it legal to drive a car without a windscreen?

Silly quiestion of the day!

Im doing some body/filler/paint work on my classic mini, and as such ive had to remove the windscreen.....

HOWEVER ive run out of paint! so the question is, is it LEGAL to drive it without?
(i know its not a good idea, but halfrauds is only 2 miles away... and its back-roads)

I's fine, I think to be totaly legal you might have to remove the wipers or something stupid like that.

Loads of kitcars, caterhams etc. dont have them and they are legal.

I'd be more concerned about getting crap on a car that was being painted but seeing you are going to halfrauds it will be a rattle can job at best

i wouldn't but if you do open all the windows to avoid the pressure blowing your rear screen out.

The Jeep Wrangler in the US has the facility to remove the windscreen or fold it forward onto the bonnet but this is disabled on the UK spec ones.

What he said. Plenty of early racers are road registered and don't have a windscreen. It can be a job persuading the MOT man of that though.

Mini with no screen and all the windows shut, that's got to be the least aerodynamic thing ever!

Also I recently had to cycle 3 miles to Halfords... to buy paint....

because I was repairing the scuttle on my Mini and the windscreen was out.

Remembering the Renault spider which was supposed to have no windscreen, bit was made to have one for road purposes I would say it would not be legal.
Whether or not Much would happen is of unknown until your stopped.

of course it's legal ! you can also take all the doors off (always fancied doing this ) and driving around for the hell of it .

The screen folds flat to the bonnet on my Land Rover - perfectly legal

I took my front windows out of the car doors for MOT as the car had illegal tints when I got it. It passed though they got arsey with me (ie I put them down and pulled the wires off the back of the window switches)

When I built my Seven, it was SVA'd and MOT'd without a windscreen, and it was only after a couple of months driving it around screenless I put a small aeroscreen on it.
