Hey,

I've put a deposit down on my next car, but its in the middle of changing reg plates over. The current owner sent off the MOT/tax disc/V5 Wednesday just gone, so it could take anything upto 8 weeks before I get my new car. So I was just wondering if anybody has been in a similar situation or if there is a way around it?

You can still buy the car if you trust the seller, a V5 is not proof of ownership.

Why people wait to sell a car before changing the plates over I have no idea. Surely it's best to get the buyer to take the car as soon as possible rather than making them wait while the plates are changed over. You might find a better car while you are waiting. Depending on the size of the deposit you could walk away from it leaving them with the hassle of selling the car again.
