It all started when my housemate said "I'm going out for a drive", naturally I hopped in the passenger seat and off we went. We haddent even gone a mile when he jokingly said "do you want to go to Scotland?" after a laugh about Just heading north as far as we could be bothered I jokingly said "how about go south and go to France for the day?"
"genius!!"
So we nipped over to my parents house, covertly took my passport under the pretence that I needed some washing and then went to his parents. (they are away on Holliday so no need for covertness here). After some searching we found everything BUT his insurance certificate!
We weren't going to let that get in the way of pure stupidity so we loaded the car up an we shall be getting on the ferry as passengers on foot and leaving the car in England when we reach Dover.
So after some more messing about we have left Nottingham at 11:15 and are now on our jolly way to France!
I will keep this updated with any more stupidity until we get home again.
Hope some of you read this and comment with any ideas that two full on retards could add to the trip! I will take pictures to add when I get home too

Update! 12:00 and we are 45 miles into the journey, just been through the 50mph zone near junction 18 of the M1 (we joined at 26)
Update: 12:15 and we are almost at junction 14 of the M1. We have done 75 miles and it looks like we are doing 28mpg! in a 1.4 corsa
Update 12:30: just pulled into theservice station midway through another 59mph zone! Got shed loads of overpriced food and a few drinks and we shall be ready to go again...part of not planning this included not eating before we left!
12:55 and we are on the road again, stuck in the 50 limit still but still going. There Is a surprising amount of cars flying past us in this "50 limit" though
1:10 and we are leaving the M1 and joining the M25 for 40 miles or so. I am assuming there is a lack of lorries out due to it being bank holiday all weekend?? Oh yes...and there is now another 50 mph zone! The joy!
1:25 we are at junction 26 of the M25 having done 133 miles so far. Traffic has thinned out quite a bit. Lots of nice tunnels around here!
1:55 and we are passing brands hatch in a moment. We have done 170 miles so far and been on the road for 2 hours and 45 mins so far.
2:15 and we have been going for 3 hours now. There are no ferries until 6am so we are going to stop at the next services and crash at the hotel there. We have done 190 miles so far and will have about 20 more to go in the morning to reach the port. We won't be getting up particularly early for a ferry, just whenever we wake up or get kicked out of the hotel.
Just checked into a hotel 6 miles from Dover port. Will post up in the morning before we go to France. I won't be posting in France as I don't want to run up massive data roaming charges!
Well I am awake but there is mo amount if money in the world that will drag my mate out of bed in a morning so it looks like I'm going to just have to wait before going to France.
11:15 we set off for the port. Currently finding our way around Dover. We started off going the wrong way and ended up at the sea. We took a few photos that I will post up later.
12:15 and we are booked on the 1:30 ferry. It is the earliest we could get, we will be leaving France at 7:30
We just need to find out if it's 7:30 our time or French time!
8:15pm and we are now on English soil.
The ferry ride was about 1 and a half hours long, the sun was out on the way there so it was quite nice. On the way back it was freezing cold and windy so we stayed inside. We didn't really find much to do apart from eat a fair bit. We found a shop and my mate bought some firecrackers. Knowing that we haddent been searched/scanned or whatever on the way in, we assumed we wouldn't be on the way back... How wrong we were. We went toasted the departure lounge and saw the scanners etc... Now there was no way we could just pretend they weren't on us so my mate just walked up to the guy holding a packet of them in his hand yelling bonjour! In his best French accent. The guy just said "no no no" and took them out of his hand (as we expected) then he turned around to his mate and started speaking French. My mate then opened his bag with the rest of the firecrackers in andstarted repeating "bonjour" to the bloke. He turned around, saw what was In the bag and started to look worried. My mate just passed the bag over and luckily we got away with it without having to have our bottoms examined with a maglite! All we have left now is a 4 hour car journey! Yay!
9:00 and we have just done a fuel stop. 25 miles into the journey now. Just been following a nice smurf blue GT3 porsche too
9:35 and we have just been through dartford tunnel. We are stuck in a 50 mph limit again now we are about 65 miles into the journey so far. About 150 odd left.
10:00 and we are about to leave the M25 and change to the M1. We have done about 95 miles so far, have 100 to go on the M1 and then a few mrs to get us home from there.
10:30 and we have left the 50mph zone finally! 130 miles or so down and about 80 to go. BTW we aren't using sat nav for this trip, just google maps on my phone, we couldnt find the Nav in time!
11:00 and we are making good progress. 165 miles down and going to stop at the next services for a few mins. We are on target to get home just before midnight I think
11:30 and we left the M1, just a few more miles to go!
11:40: tick us off te register, we are home! 450 miles driven, a night in a random hotel, a trip over the border and breakfast at 5pm in Calais all in 24 hours and 24 minutes!
Thanks for keeping the thread alive guys it was a fun trip. I will sort the formatting out on these posts tomorow and add the pictures.

We got off the ferry and just started walking as though we knew where we were going. Suffice to say we were met with a big fence Next we looked around, found a road and started walking, we ended up on a motorway! So we turned around, walked back and found a bridge that took us into the middle Calais We each ate a pancake and then went back home... job done!
The next 2 pics are of the bottom shelf in a corner shop on the high street. They also sold police style expandable batons, knuckle dusters, 1,000,000 volt tasers and the firecrackers we tried to get back into the country. (pics may be NSFW so i will just link them instead)

t o'clock at night, just to spend the afternoon there and then come home. 
Did similar a couple of years back, not quite to france though... me and a mate were sitting bored and thought that we wanted some ice cream... hopped into the car, just started driving, (fullish tank) and then decided "Hey! Lets drive as far south as we can on this tank of petrol and get ice cream there" Ended up giving up at St Andrews... for the icecream, stopped there and got some from a nice little shop with a few hotties around 
. Made it to Edin, with quarter tank left, but no light on, but decided to fill up and head back to Aberdeenshire. Needless to say, it was one hell of an expensive ice cream, but he bought the tank back up since I paid for the one to get us down!
