Selling the wife's car on Autotrader, it went on yesterday and she received an email this morning asking what our lowest price was. She replied asking what his highest offer was and received the following

Actually,i should have call you or arrange for an inspection but as at this moment i can not make a phone conversation due to the nature of my work, all i can do is for me to talk with you via email to email,so just get back to me with the final price for it, i will be waiting to read from you as soon as possible

Thank You.

Sounds fishy to me! Thoughts?

More fishy than a Grimbsy trawler.

Use of language is scamtastic.

The words "final price" are the biggest giveaway of a scam.

Respond with a "final price" of £1000 more than advertised, more than likely he'll accept without question and you'll have confirmed your suspicions.

I gave up using autotrader to sell my car.

I had, and I kid you not, 24 emails about my car. Every single 1 of them was a scammer, I had the same one (some bellend called Morgan Houston) 4 times.

I don't find this dodgy, he will obviously use paypal, or genuine obscure method of payment to pay for your vehicle so he can ship it to his country of choice.

I had one, from a pregnant woman from the Isle of Skye who's husband was working 'away', probally in Nigeria. Was 'offered' £300 or so more than what it was up for.

Not sure if it was scam buyers, but was offered an Merc SLK & a BMW X5 in part-ex for my Skoda Fabia 1.2 from 2 people.

Please excuse my stupidity but what is the scam? What do these guys benefit from it?

I understand that there is a hell of a lot that goes on, just never got what they gain from such emails..

Think I'd be tempted not to supply an email address, or if I did, one which auto-replied 'currently I am unavailable by email due to working offshore hehe please call me on .......'

On a side note - When selling a car; if anyone emails, texts or calls from a withheld number they are usually a waste of time.

The email in question here has all the hallmarks of a scam

I can't see the that it's clearly a scam based on the evidence so far, but it is a piss take.

I had the EXACT same email a few days ago via AT.

Was it from a Mr Alan Kijojo by any chance?

I played along and got him to 'send' me £5000 via Paypal. I was supposed to send his shipping agent some money (no idea why) so my £5000 would be released.

The Paypal notification came from an @paypal.co.uk account but seeing as I'm not a retard, it was easy to spot as a fake. These scams always seem to involve Western Union too. rolleyes

Tell them to fk off.

Just had another dodgey one today

This one is from

Debby McCullough <captaindebby5@gmail.com>

It starts off with

--
  • Hello,
i will like to know maybe this listed AD is still avaliable for sale.

Thanks*

then after the response (don't know why I bothered!?)

Hello, thanks for the quick response, I wish I could come for a view but will be happy if you can assure me that its in good condition, cos due to my job i cant make coming over there, am an oceanographer busy on an assignment and presently now am in Bermuda coast on a ship...So i chose to use PayPal because of the distance between us and for safe transaction...I hope you can read this mail and understand me better...Please if you don't have PayPal account yet, It is easy to set up,just log onto www.paypal.com and get it set up...And i will only need the e-mail address which you use in registration with PayPal.

As for the pick up, my pick up agent will be accessing that and they will also be coming for the pick up immediately the payments have been made to you..Please send me your address so that my pick up agent can figure it out and come for the pick up and other necessary things after the payments have been made, they will also be coming with all the information needed, my details and transferring the name of ownership to me will be done by the pick up agent so you don't have to worry about that. Send me your registered email address with PayPal so i can pay in.
Cheers
