No Claims Bonus

Hi Guys,

Basically I thought I had four years NCB, but I've recently been told by my insurance company that they won't accept my previous 2 years NCB from my first insurance company. This is because my Dad was the policy holder, but I was the main driver.

My Dad reckons that some insurance companies will accept this, but I'm a bit sceptical. The reason I’m so concerned is because with my 4 years no claims the lowest quote I can get on the car I want to buy is 1.6k and with 2 years ncb this goes up to 2.5k. Its really annoying as I don’t think i saved much by having my dad as the policy holder and my Dad never drove the car in the 2 years I had it.

Does anyone know insurance companies that will accept this as no claims proof? I'm going to have a ring round tommorrow. If I don't have any luck its back to the 1.4 206 for a few more years

Epic fronting, you wont get much sympathy here.

To answer your question, best to just ring around as NCB terms are at the discretion of the provider.

I was down on the policy as the main driver.

You don't have to be the policyholder to be the main driver.

My bad, I interpreted it the wrong way.

In future, take the policy out in your own name and put a female down as the second driver (mum, sister, nan, girlfriend etc), that does make it cheaper.

Could you not phone your first insurance company and ask?

Failing that just ask the companies you're getting quotes from.

There are only two companies quoting me below 2k. I'm going to call them tommorrow. I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem.
