The diesel cabriolet - an odd model?
Discussion
The few sunny days of late have really highlighted how popular cabrios are in the UK (iirc we buy more cabrios than anywhere else in Europe).
I have however noticed that the vast proportion of new cabrios on show are in fact diesels with the A3 2.0 TDI and BMW 320d typically most popular (also seen quie a few of diesel TT roadsters).
For me, the aural stimulation is a big part of the roof down experience. Under a bridge or through a tunnel on full chat is one of the great motoring pleasures.
I can understand diesel being the frugal choice but more exposure to diesel clatter and that dirty black smoke? No pleasure from full throttle acceleration?
I suppose for me, the concept of a diesel cabrio is a little odd (especially as a roadster). Cabrios are fun, diesel engines aren't. I'm just not sure they 'work' in my head.
Anyone here have a diesel cabrio? Would be interested to hear opinions/experiences.
