Taxing a car without a reminder or V5C

Can it be done? I need to tax a car so that I can drive it to get some work done but seem to have temporarily mislaid the V5C. Is there any way that I can tax it so I can drive it legally?

If you go to the post office they have a form you can fill out to sort it.

Alternatively you can just re apply for a new V5.

As I recall you can only tax a car with either, if you don't have any documents you will have to fill out a V62 and wait for the V5 to arrive

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have a similar question.

My car has been on SORN for a month and I want to tax it from May 1st onwards. When I tried to do it now it would only let me tax it from April 1st onwards. Can I only tax it for May online from the 1st onwards? My local PO is closed for refurbishment and I wont be able to do the 26 mile round trip to the next nearest by then because of work and the bank holiday.
