Car stereo switching itself on and off?!?

Hello all,

Vehicle is a New Beetle RSi (2002).

My radio started playing up a while ago, the symptoms being that it would switch itself on and off randomly (including when the keys are removed from the ignition). As time progressed it got worse, not allowing me to turn the radio off when on, or on when off.

I've removed the relevant fuse for the time being, however I'm keen to try and get the problem fixed vs. shelling out trying replacement parts.

I'm guessing that the on/off / volume pot has failed. Is there anyway I can get just the pot replaced? Any recommendations for companies that can undertake this kind of repair work?

Had a similar issue on my Passat, radio would randomly switch on.
Can't offer any help as magically fixed itself at the same time as the climate control.
