Is this possibly the most pointless thing ever? Followed some japanese dullbox tonight that had a "baby on board" sign on one side of the rear window and "child on board" on the other. Both said please drive carefully on the bottom.

Now I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'm fairly sure that those signs didn't subconsciously make me reconsider my original plan of driving with gay abandon into the back of said japanese dullbox inflicting personal injury to myself and destroying my P&J in the process.

Or maybe they did and I've just had a very lucky escape. Phew! rolleyes

And is it just coincidence that at that point in time the dullbox was by far and away the most hazardously driven vehicle in my immediate vicinity?

I always thought they were to alert emergency services in the event of a crash, bit pointless having drive carefully underneath as I always try avoid killing myself when I drive.

Yep, that's the pseudo nonsense they're marketed on, although would have thought the presence of a kiddy seat was more of a giveaway. Just another way of extracting cash by frightening parents, then selling them some tat to take the fear away...IMHO of course...

They are displayed to let the rest of us know that the vehicle will be driven like an arse, usually found speeding through 30 mph zones, often fail to use indicators, will pull out infront of you and will generally be poorly driven.

Treat them with extreme caution.

Whereas seeing "babe on board" or "sexy minx on board" makes me want to go and buy an old stter purely so I can run the car in question into the nearest ditch.

At least then I would get a few hours entertainment watching the fire brigade cut the pink playboy tracksuited, greasy haired, cheeseburger gezzling behemoth out of the wreckage.

I say wreckage, but they'd have to do that anyway regardless of damage, firstly due to the gunt to airbag interface and secondly because princess Chantelle has got her flip flop and her Elizabeth Duke at Argos toe ring hooked up behind the clutch pedal!!

I was making this exact point at the top of the Hartside Pass at the weekend.

Also we followed a Pug with "please keep your distance" written on the rear bumper in really small lettering which made us laugh a bit.

I think the idea was that if the baby was thrown clear seat and all they'd know to look for it. Of course, in that case you should only have the sign when the baby is actually in the car!

Doors over there misery guts. Plenty other things to read on here! wavey

I think "Child on board" also carries some sort of blue badge dispensation from traffic law as well.

Every time I take littlebinlicker to school there are loads of soft roaders parked on the zig zags outside displaying the little yellow signs.

Do you really think the emergency services would attach the slightest relevance to a Baby on Board sticker? No one takes them off when the baby isn't there!

You might as well argue that a four door car must have four people in it as it sometimes will.

Why does everyone seem to get so offended by these? I've got a daughter and don't have a sign in my car. I have no intention of having one either, but I don't get upset when I see that someone has decided that they want one. Why do you care?

I think you all need to grow up and get a life.

Thanks for the advice. I shall immediately cease to pity these attention wes and instead cooo and go all dewey-eyed as I pull alongside and eye the st-producing bundle on the back seat that is, apparently, the only baby in the world produced by the only parents in the world.

Or. Perhaps not.

I don't bother to notice such signs, I just assume that all other drivers on the road could stand on the brakes, turn without indicating or just do something plain stupid at all times............

It took a crash 32 days after I passed my driving test for me to learn that, and ever since, I've not had another crash. Or kerbed an alloy. Or put a scatch on anyone's car (including my own).

God forbid anyone be proud of their daughter/son.

Do you really think that parents of new borns expect that of you? You obviously have no idea.
