Octavia VRS Estate (MK1) is it any good? What else?

Ok so this is sort of a what car thread. I want a new car, I don't need one but I want one.
My criteria are must be an Estate because I have grown to love being able to fit anything I want in the car, must be fun to drive but fairly discreet and under £4k. I have considered the T5 engined Volvos but just can't find many I would be happy with in budget and they only really seem fun in a straight line, and I already have a Turbo charged volvo that is competent not slow but never entertains.
The S and RS Audis are an option but I would be always wondering if a big bill was just about to appear.
The 330 or 328 both appeal but are not that common (1 manual 330i touring within 100 miles of me on AT).
Focus ST170 is one I have considered but I think because I have had one I should get something different, and the Mondeo does nothing for me.
Is there anything else I have missed or is the VRS the more amusing but still practical car I am searching for?

I've got a mk1 Vrs estate, mine has been fine, it's fast enough for daily use, it's is a bit floaty in the twisty bits and the paintwork has had to be sorted out under warranty on the back doors and the tailgate, oh and it destroyed a gearbox as well...
That's aside if you are looking for something fast, can be economical, spacious and a bit of a q car, then look no further.
Would also add, pay a vist to Briskoda..

Not a fan of the scooby, a bit too noisy and obvious even in wagon flavour.
The C32 is too expensive, a C43 isn't but while I don't want 50mpg there is no way I could live with fuelling one if the claimed mpg is close to reality. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
ETA: If I was buying a mile munching diesel the passat would be on the list but they are too dull even for someone that wants an estate car.

I have considered hatches (and sports cars) but I went from a Berlingo with more practicality than you can shake a stick at, to a Volvo that is as useful but comfy and just love the space I can have. I had hatches for years some of them small and am firmly an estate car fan until I can afford to run more than one motor.
This looks cheap if it wears its miles well.

i've just bought a MG ZT-T 190 (2.5l V6), collect on Friday
There is a V8 version as well (250bhp)
I know it is effectively a Rover 75 but that was fettled by BMW
The colour of this one might not be great but this is what you can get for £4k and thats top price i think, alot around for 2.5K

Fuel consumption (combined) 8.9 mpg
Combined is clearly wrong. I'd guess 15-20mpg is about right.
I'd recommend a test drive.
Some of the cars described as "More fun" didn't strike me that way when I bought a hatch Mk1 vRS.
I've not driven the estate, so it could be quite different, but the Octavia was a much more enjoyable drive than it's rather staid exterior suggested.
Would've been even more fun with a tad more power (210 - 225 BHP - too much would probably have ruined it though).
