Engine overheating but the radiator is stone cold?

Does that mean a hose has come off or split? It also pisses water out when running, can't quite see from where.

Any other suggestions what it could be?

what do you mean by overheating? Do you mean that's what the tempo gauge is telling you? Is the fan kicking in? Sounds like what happened to my S90. Temp sensor gone, easy fix if you know where it is.

Additional details ... I unavoidable went over a large hole in the road, this is when the leaking started, but i'm 99% sure the car didn't come into contact with the ground

Yes the temp gauge soon goes up to red and cuts the engine out. The fan kicks in also, car is a 330d

There you go, the most likely solution in the first response because the OP wrote that the coolant's escaping and people are banging on about thermostats. What will the thermostat do if there's nothing to sense?

if its pissing out fluid and at the same time as this starts reading very hot, I'd be inclined to say this is a mechanical problem, not electrical.

Thermostat usually fails "open" in any event.

my thermostat failed 'CLOSED' in my event

edit: and I would also assume the OP isnt stupid enough just to post because theres a crack in one of his pips (big enough/left long enough) meaning theres no fluid in there at all.

It may help an internet diagnosis if you give a genaral idea as to where the coolant is coming from, bottom of front bumper, front of engine, back of engine, etc.

Front of the engine area, towards the bottom I think.

Its hard to tell because the water runs down other things in the area.

Either Thermostat's gone and jammed shut, or water pump's gone.

Pray you've not cooked the HG or you'll have a rather large bill if it pops!

If the bearing seal on the water pump has gone then water will appear to come from nowhere as the pump is usually well buried behind all the drive belts etc.
Probably nothing to do with the pothole, just a coincidence that you started to notice the leak after hitting it.
