beware after advertising car for sale

shortly after placing my wifes mini copper, on pistonheads for sale,
we got a call from a company saying they had buyers waiting for just such a vehicle,
they just needed her card details, so that when the sale was complete they could take their £99 for arranging the deal, PLEASE DONT GIVE ANYONE YOUR CARD DETAILS unless you know who they are. These people are very convincing and were very sincere. Fortunately my wife was suspicious when they asked for card details, even though she was assured that all of the £99 would be refunded in the event of no sale.

It's not a new scam unfortunately, I got burned by the same one at least 10 years ago.

Best thing to do with them is to say you want <insert make/model of a very common car> and have they got any? Insist that if they can show you an advert for one then you'll go for it as they're saving you hassle.

You can lead them down the garden path with that one for 10 mins (at their expense) and listen to the frustration in the scammer's voice build up.

Hehe just looked at Cardata's website and when you search for vehicles the results seem to be lifted from Gumtree adverts. Funny that isn't it...

You would have to be quite retarded to fall for that. I wouldnt even give close family my card details.
Edit: saying that, i have no problem entering it into paypal.
