Whats the V50 like?

Still cant make my mind up what car i want next. Still tempted by a three series but i totally enjoyed the vectra estate i used to have.

Started looking at barges, the v50 sport looks real nice, but the equipment levels seem pretty piss poor.

I'm quite pleased with the drive/handling/ride balance. The only thing I find is that road noise is higher then I expected.

My in laws have an ex demo top of the range model D5 auto. Tis fully loaded but the engine is rough and vocal, though a good performer. My main gripe was the auto box which feels like a horrid CVT though I'm not sure it is...? Worth a drive to see how you think it stacks up to the competition. Very comfortable- the best seats ever!

I've got aD4 auto and found the transmission quite smooth between ratios and responsive, what was it that made you think it was like a CVT?

Bear in mind that I'm not sure how the boot compares to the 3 series, but it's smaller than the Vectra.

I like my 2.4i petrol SE. Leather, climate, cruise, great stereo, comfy seats, smooth and quiet but with the 5 pot growl. Floating dash is a nice touch and looks good in the aluminium.

Steering isn't the sharpest and I don't particularoy enjoy driving it for it dynamics, but I do enjoy driving it, for the above reasons.

Ive got a V50 2.0ltr diesel SE Sport, its a nice spec, not sure what is missing for everyday use?! Steering feel is a bit wooly, fuel economy not as good as some newer diesels (43mpg day to day), but seats are great and cabin is a nice place to be. I cant really knock it.

Not owned one myself, father has had 2. 2.0D SE, not sure what could be possibly be missing on the spec, and 2.0 SE petrol. He rates the petrol as much nicer than the diesel.
Fuel economy on both very good.

Bit of a reverse tardis though, outside dimensions are only a tiny bit smaller than my old mk1 V70 T5, which is huge inside.

Personally on short drive i've tried both and preferred the diesel. Though in all honesty the sister Focus is bigger inside and more practical, though in vastly lower league for the interior.

Actually it isn't, when you get down to the nitty gritty. Some things in the Focus are better, it makes a better use of interior space, and the handling /steering is better. Random examples.

The Volvo is better in other ways, interior design, seats, engineering stuff around the engine, transmission and suspension, dealers, again just some random examples.

Completely off topic, has anyone seen the interior design of the latst Focus??

FFS the bd offspring of a Taiwanese mother and Italian father. The Asian part like shiny shiny switches, more switches, buttons, knobs, slidey things, twirly things, ooh two LCD displays, surely we can fit another one in. The Italian side is that bloke who decides where switches should be placed for Maserati.

New Focus is a fine car but oh ffs that dash!!!

When i meant equipment levels being poor, i guess i meant that the v50 dash looks very bland and empty. Maybe its the floating console that does it.

A difference of opinion then, one of the reason I chose it was the clean, uncluttered and easy to read display & dashboard.
