Pulsar GTiR

Hey all, ive been looking at buying a GTiR for a while now, so i was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. Ive got a £4k budget, and have seen a few nice examples.
Whats your opinions on them, ive heard they arent the most reliable is this true? Would a standard one be a better choice?

My only experience was having one undertake and then cut me up, the thing was so bloody fast though, I was more impressed than annoyed!

Best you find a forum more dedicated to this car, to get full information.
Basically they're now old cars, the Pulsar will be an import, the UK version was a Sunny, although, iirc, only about 70 of those were sold.
Standard is always better, with a service record.
I think it's been said that brakes are a weak point on these.
Btw, have you investigated insurance cost?

All I have heard about these is that the standard brakes are awful for how fast they are and the insurance is mental. As mentioned best to join the owner's club or something to find more about which car's are decently modified. Reason being quite cheap and being turbo'd some owner's may just do cheap ways of making them faster such as turning boost up without proper supporting modifications so best to know what these need to be so you don't buy a ticking time bomb.

Ive had a look at insurance which will be £1000 a year which isnt bad considering i have 8 points lol

1,000 sounds very reasonable with 8 point's must admit
I cannot even get quoted on one aged 19 lol

Early audi s3's are dropping around the 4k mark btw and offer similar performance (remap safely to 275bhp) but in a nicer looking more modern package with a far superior interior as another option...

Brakes terrible, very nose heavy and not fun to drive, albeit the engine is a monster

I had one for a few years, great little car and no-one knew what it was so you always had to explain to the uninitiated.
As has been said the standard brakes are awful so that is an early upgrade, suspension needs looking at as it has a tendancy for understeer, gearbox can be a weak point on any nonstandard car, mine only had 268bhp and I broke the gearbox twice.
Agree with the comments on joining the owners club for a source of info. Don't think I've seen a standard car for years and as they are cheap you will have to be careful not to get a ropey, poorly looked after car. Can't think of anything off the top of my head, but as I got mine in 1999 then I'm sure I've forgotten a few things.

friend of mine had one and it was really showing the miles inside at 50-60k miles and generally sounded a bit tinny when shutting doors etc. Went like stink and with upgraded brakes stopped well too.

Would agree the S3 would be a more 'quality' package overall but if you like your Jap-tuned cars then its probably a fun option in the short-term.

yea im liking the S3 more and more, i like the pulsar cos its something different, but the quality of an Audi and the safety is very appealing

Not sure on mileage but somewhere between 90,000-105,000

All the basic modifications covered:

Full exhaust system
Front mounted Intercooler
Coilovers

Had the common rust issues sorted, clutch gearbox is good, never had any issues with it.

Uprated brembo brakes to cure the awful brakes in standard trim.

Passes its MOT's without issues on a regular basis.

Was after around £2500-3000 from our last conversation.
