Route planning help please

Tomorrow I've got to go from Ongar, Essex to Longleat, Wiltshire.

Her indoors wants to watch some of that event so leaving about noon.

Opinions needed.

M4, off at J17 and A350.

Or

M3, A303 then A36.

I'm thinking M3 route is better/faster? Got no idea what the A303 would be like with people making a dash away for the weekend. Also not sure how good the A350 would be going the other way.
