No seriously... I cannot find it for the life of me. It is definitely not under the hood, and I cannot figure out where else it could be.

It's in a tricky place. You have to remove both the rear wheels, and lower the rear axle down about 6 inches, then crawl along the drive shafts towards the front of the car. You should be able to spot it there when you are wedged between the transfer box, and the gearbox.

hiace -- under one of the seats, engine's there so dipstick cant be far away?

We had a Hiace for a bit, I seem to think its somewhere down towards the back of the engine behind a load of pipes or the exhaust or something.

Remember though once you finally find it and pull it out you will never find the hole it goes in again!

It is from memory, both the seats tip forwards allowing access to engine gubbins

Yup, there are two clips on the passenger seats you have to unhook then the whole lot tips up backwards.

So you're not wedged anywhere near the transfer case, trying to find it? I'm disappointed.
