993 appreciating - really?

any knowledgeable types got any data on the rate of appreciation (or depreciation) on 993's - assuming that a car gets a few k miles on it p.a.?
not the turbo models, just the standard ones

I was really tempted to splash out on one but couldn't justify the potential bills, if I'd known they were borderline appreciation I'd have thought more about it!

I've been casually browsing for the last six months and rarely see them sub £20k. Lowest ever at £17k.

996's are way down on that.

I'd be confident that they had bottomed out depreciation wise, but it all depends on market demand.

Possibly some of that, but seem to be much less likely to destroy an engine through IMS failure than a 996 or boxster.

C2s and c4s seem to rarely get below 27k

Sometimes it seems like getting a Tattoo, if there isn't some pain then you just are playing at it, where the 996 is a Henna Tattoo and a 993 a full back mural of German Engineering through the ages, by rights 1980s air cooled models should be worth millions on the same criteria.

Bought my first 993 9 years ago and have had three since.

Rather than appreciate the vanilla c2/c4 have remained static, turbos have moved up and down and the rs has gone bonkers.

It's unlikely that the vanilla cars will achieve big prices as collectors want the more extreme cars, notwithstanding that will have a halo effect on the others.

Looking at the number of cars still up for sale there's a lot of people who've bought to speculate but haven't managed to move their cars on so far this year unless it's priced slightly lower than the market. Could we be seeing the start of the fall in prices?

I sold my 993S to a dealer in 2006 for £27500 with 60k on the clock.

A friend just bought it (same physical car) private sale for around the same money with 90k miles (I think).

In the meantime I took a £20k hit on a 997S . Should never have sold the old one!

I think the vanilla C2 manual will go through the roof at some stage. It's the ultimate version of the air cooled 911 Carrera which is the defining model for many people.

There also seem to be very few 993 C2 manuals comparatively.

I think its people like me who will keep 993 prices up:

I have never driven one, but I want one so much and have since they were new. 996 just doesn’t do it for me, even though I read that its lighter and faster.

My dream cars have always been 993 and F355.

993 is one of the best looking cars without a doubt and I want one, however I think its best for me to never own one as I have been a passenger in a couple and each time its made me think of my mates old beetle we drove round in at 17 years old. The 996's I have been in have felt faster, more planted generally a "better" car. Its just not as nice looking, 997 is once again a good looking car, almost as nice as the 993.

When I think about getting a static priced classic I think 993 then 348, they are basically the same money. I think I'd prefer the Ferrari to look at, drive only on nice sunny weekends and polish.

if you look at the 1973 cars the T are worth far less than the S and RS

the pork which has gone through the roof always has been the low volume, performance variants - nothing wrong with the vanilla cars (I rated mine above the tt) but the ones that make the big numbers are the 'special' cars

unless the euro really kicks sterling in the balls some more we might be over the peak in prices
