They couldn't give them way when they were new, used ones were always just a few hundred pounds. They came rusty from the factory, the petrol engines had the noise and smoothness of a diesel but the fuel economy of a petrol engine twice its size.
They were horrible edifices on wheels, handled like a wardrobe on stilts and came in some horrible colours with the naffest spotlight available on any vehicle.
Give me a Morris Marina or an Austin Maxi or even a landcrab any day over this thing

As a small boy, I had a green die-cast Rancho. It had the opening tailgate, little plastic spotlights and everything. I loved it. And it is unequivocally still a genuinely cool car, especially for those of us of a certain age. Irrespective of how rubbish it might be as a means of transport, there are far worse ways of spending £4k on a car. Mind you, I have a brown Allegro estate in my fantasy garage which probably tells you everything you need to know about my application of 'taste' to motor vehicles.

Such as ? I can't think of anything you could buy which would immediately rape you for at least 75% of what you paid and leave yellow lines of rust on your drive ! And your wife certainly wouldn't want on be seen in it either Busa_Rush said:

And the exterior used to rust off the plastic bits outside
The tappets could be heard from two miles away on a tediously awful French engine
They were distinctive though
