What £15k 2+2 Toy?

The Chimaera isn't getting used due to the lack of any backseats so decided to replace it with a new toy.
The car is going to be a second car 'toy' and I was sold on the idea of a 996 but I'm having second thoughts.....don't fancy another TVR so a Cerbera is out, what else is there that'll put a smile on my face when I open the garage door on a sunny sunday and will fit an 8 year old in the back?

Perhaps an older, air-cooled 911 then. 964 or pre'89 model.

I might be wrong but Maser running costs scare me more than 996 engine issues, and I'll be doing less than 6k a year in it.
A mate keeps going on about 993/964 flavour 911's I think 964's are a little over budget for a good one, not ruled out 993's but need to get over the dated looks/interior.....

You'd need to research it, but yes, they can be dear. However, 6k miles pa, some years you may need an annual which, off the top of my head, is c£400.

Oh and it has to fit in my Barret shoebox garage.......a 996 'just' fits. ;-)

I think that you may have that the wrong way around chap, you'll get yourself in a decent 964 for a lot less ££ than a 993.

I'd still say look at a TVR Cerb though, very different car to a Chim.

If it's occasional use and smiles then I think I'd be looking at classics. If it's pace you want then an e46 M3 would fit the bill, but is maybe a tad too boring/sensible/every day looking to be a weekend toy.

Some fine choices there but I think only 25% would fit in the garage and some may fail the 'quick' test, it does need to be in the same league as the TVR performance wise.

morgan 4 seaters start at about 15k, which will be ford cvh or kent powered (fiat twin cam if you are lucky) you could consider an engine transplant if its not fast enough for you.

Being fairly simple they are pretty easy to live with and more importantly if you keep it in reasonable shape will be worth at least what yoiu paid for it if you sell it later.

Don't think I've got the beard for a Morgan.......but E30 M3..... would make a good pair with the daily driver but I might be too tempted to turn it into a trackday slag and hence ruining the whole 'back seat' point of the exersize!
