I'm currently renewing my insurance with Admiral. I delivery pizzas as a part time job and have noticed that it is only £11 extra to add on personal business insurance. However the policy documents state that:

"The policy does not cover use for hiring, merchandise delivery or use for any purpose in connection with the Motor Trade."

Does anyone know what exactly 'merchandise delivery' includes? Would this include thing such as delivering pizzas? The company already covers us third party so it isn't a big issue, it would just be nice to have fully comp insurance while delivering.

Cheers

I suspect it does, my Swiftcover policy specifically mentions pizza delivery and in general insurers frown upon such activities.

In the world of insurance, "Business Insurance" usually means Public Liability insurance.

Admiral will not cover you to deliver pizzas.

You also need to tell your insurer that your part-time job is delivering pizzas (if you haven't already).
I personally wouldn't be delivering anything when only covered third-party - I presume that you have also seen the actual insurance certificate of your employer?

Generally 'business use' on a personal motor policy is referring to Class 1 Business Use; which entitles you to use your car to travel to client sites and/or mulitple places of work, as opposed to Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SD&P) use which only entitles you to use your vehicle to travel to your permanent place or work.

For Pizza delivery (or any other type of light goods) you will require Class 3 Business Use.

Cheers for the replys guys.

Looks like it won't cover deliveries then but at £11 I might as well get it incase I have other business use in the next year. Hopefully won't be delivering pizzas too much longer!
