Alpine as above then, thats what I stuck in my old Cupra R (I take it you mean a mk1 R?), worked well with the factory speakers. You'll need loom adapters from memory for the ariel amp.

I have a Pioneer DEH-P7100BT, does all what you ask, excellent sound quality, I paid £170 ish last year, but I recall they had "lesser" models that had the same functionality but cut back on things like pre-amp outputs etc.

Sod the halfords Sendai and Mutant st. They might have more features for the money but you will end up disappointed.

Do not get a Sony unless she like terrible physical ergonomics, a baffling control system, and a daft demo mode that flashes annoyingly - which it defaults to if the power is lost. Absolute ste!

I bought one of those cheap double DIN Chinese boxes mostly out of curiosity and because the original radio was a double din and was sorely disappointed. I wouldn't have another even if it was offered at half the £100 I paid for mine.

Kenwood kdc-Bt60u is a good bet. I think it is closer to 200 quid though.
Screen isn't really big enough for scrolling through phone numbers or ipod songs but its ok. It's full of features, you can even Bluetooth songs from your phone.

I had a Sony head-unit in my old car, it flashed CONSTANTLY.

So fking annoying, that I actually returned it.
It was one hell of a distraction at night.
