complicated (to me) insurance question

Right then, my girlfriend has not passed her driving test yet,she's been offered a car that she likes for a reasonable amount. So she's thinking of buying it whilst she has the money. The question is,until she passes,should sge just declare it off road,and can you insure a car to just stay on the drive covering no miles? Thanks

Insure it, MOT it & then declare it SORN until she is ready to drive it. I did that too mine a few weeks ago - my insurance remained valid whilst it was off the road as i had SORNED it.

It's easy to tax it when she is ready to drive it. Just need the MOT, insurance & original reg doc to be produced at the Post Office.

Thanks for the reply,so what your saying is for her to insure it then declare it off road. If she paid a month installment of her insurance and sorn'ed it as soon as she got it,would she still need to pay the other 11 month installments? Sorry if I sound thick,but all this sorning is brand new to me.

Why not buy it and insure it and then she can use it for practicing in? Learner driver insurance is realtively cheap IIRC

I bought my own car before passing my test and insured it.

My dad used to take me out in it so I could practice. I have no doubt it helped me, and also I had my own car to go out in the minute I got home from passing my test.

Yes, because she is buying an annual contract which the insurance company have gracefully allowed her to pay in small chunks.
