Undersealing a car before the MOT

Just looking for a bit of advice really, I shall keep it short.

MOT booked for tomorrow, is it a bad idea to underseal the car the day before the MOT, I will be doing a big service beforehand and thought I might as well underseal it at the same time. I know it will fail the MOT and have it booked in with a mate of a mate for welding on Friday, it is just going to the MOT so I know what else it will fail on, if anything.

So, is it a bad idea to underseal a car the day before the MOT, car is a rover mini.

Don't see why it would be a bad idea. They can't fail you on what they can't see.

Wouldn't it make sense to do the MOT first, in case it fails on another big job, warranting scraping the car?

No point in undersealing if you are having welding done. Wait till its all sorted then do it.

Won't make any difference to the MOT other than they may poke it a bit more than normal.

Maybe i'm missing something, but why MOT it before welding? It will end up being a waste of time and money if the only things it fails on is the chassis which you're welding on Friday.
Also, why underseal if you're going to be welding the day after? You might find you have to re-do half the underseal as it had to be cleaned off before it was welded.

I think you're going at it all back to front!

So he makes sure everything that needs to be done gets done?

I thought I would do the MOT before the welding as the MOT will show up anything that might be terminal for the car, if the only thing it does fail on is the welding then I will get that sorted on friday and there will be a free re-test.

I thought I would do the MOT before the welding as the MOT will show up anything that might be terminal for the car, if the only thing it does fail on is the welding then I will get that sorted on friday and there will be a free re-test.

Not all are a free re-test.. It stipulates on the bottom of the failure certificate if its free or not. Usually if its returned within the next working day, it will be free or free if left at the station and tested within 10 working days. So if your mate will definitely be able to do it in the working day and you can get a re-test it might be worth it.

Do the underseal after the welding. Personally I'd do it after the fee retest too because if the MOT garage isn't particularly friendly they might suspect you of simply undersealing over the bit that failed...

When I had my other car done at the same garage it failed on a couple of things, they gave me 10 days to fix the car and return it for re inspection, but I will check, cheers.

I don't think its up to the tester, I think VOSA put it on the certificate and thats how it is. But, I think welding is a next working day kind of thing
