New car required any thoughts?

Well first post on here and looking for a new motor, what that is im not sure!
Currently own a 2007 Focus ST which we have owned from new, This was bought as my wifes car and at the time I owned a E46 M3, but due to us buying a bigger house and now having a new addition to the family I sold the M3 last year and we have kept the Focus as its 5dr and has the boot space we require and you can have a bit of fun when the little lad and wife are at home! But time has come to replace the focus, budget of 17k approx, must be sporty but have 5 doors and a decent boot would like it to be newer than the focus so 2008 onwards, thoughts??

I'd say the VXR8. Can't see why anyone would want the Insignia over it tbh. MPG probably won't be much worse (if any) than your ST either.Not keen on the Golf/A4 personally. Sure they are good cars but I really don't rate the image and they both look dull as hell. I always associate them with the kind of person who wants others to think they are a car buff when they aren't.
BMW's are always worth a shout. 130i although smaller boot than the Focus or a 3 Series of some kind.
Hatch wise I think I'd still look at an Impreza, not as good looking as some past saloon examples, but still pretty good in terms of the hatchback market. STI's still go pretty well too with 100hp more than a Golf GTI.
If you don't mind the looks the Mazda 3 MPS might be worth a look too. And as a left field option how about a late model Mazda RX-8 R3, maybe not quite as peppy or quick, but rwd and fine handling.
If you're looking at a Golf and A4 then you might also want to look at the Octavia. Brand/image aren't to everyones taste but the same chassis and engines as the VW/Audi but with a much bigger boot and cheaper too. VRS is a 200bhp petrol or 170bhp diesel. Get an older one as a daily driver an an elise for the weekend.

and ive had the bloody Focus 4 years im fed up with it thats why I want a change and I dont want 2 cars
