False top speed claims, stories please
Discussion
I've been reading the "Entirly false 0-60 claims" thread and it got me thinking about top speed claims.
I'm currently sat next to somebody at Uni who's been telling me about how his 1.6 8v Polo hit 150mph on a country lane... I told him its bulls
t and he disagree's. Of course he can't take me out and prove it because he no longer has the car. Shock!
Can anybody share there stories? And stories of actual (indicated) top speeds reached that you have witnessed yourselves, obviously on tracks or closed roads

Approx 172 mph in a DB9 (GPS speed) - fastest I've been on four wheels
Bmw S1000RR - feck knows, but close to a 'real' 190mph I would imagine.
Suzuki GSXR Hayabusa - see above! (think they're restricted to 186 mph)
I'm sure Superman himself will be along shortly to announce 250mph speeds on a unicycle, downhill, with a favourable tail wind etc..

Maybe it's because all my friends are either engineers or physicists (students or otherwise) that I don't get this BS. Fastest I've been in a car was about 160mph in the passenger seat of a RUF CTR Yellowbird in Canada (friend's car) on this country road. That was beyond pornographic.

I hit an indicated 192.3 mph in a mate's Nova yesterday.
Via GPS reading or the Nova's own clocks?!! I hit an indicated 192.3 mph in a mate's Nova yesterday.

He reckons 197mph is possible if he removes the rear seats.
gone off the clock and then some plenty of time in both a corsa b and an my current 306 gti-6 (140mph clocks)
my 306 gti-6 is very stable and seems more than happy to keep going faster where as my corsa sounded and felt like death was imminent
Not heard many I've gone x miles an hour stories really unless they are like 100 or 120mph, no dreamer or speeder

You've posted about the Corsa on the other thread. I can't see how a 60bhp Corsa can get anywhere near 140mph. I've owned a 170bhp car which couldn't quite hit an indicated 140mph on the flat. 60bhp should get you to about 105mph at the most.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
