Used Car warranty Problem (Audi car at non-Audi dealer)
Discussion
This one will take some explaining but please stick with it!
In August last year I bought an Audi A2 1.6 petrol from a well known dealer group, we'll call them A-Vans Hallsore.
The car came with a warranty from Warranty Direct that says there is a maximum labour rate that they will pay in the event of a claim. This rate is below that of a VW/Audi main dealer. They will also not pay if you take the car to Audi for diagnostics and then somewhere else for repair.
If you take the car to the supplying dealer, you dont have to pay anything. If you take it elsewhere you have to pay and claim it back.
A couple of weeks back, the engine warning light came on so I used my own diagnostic tool to read the fault codes - These translate to a coolant temperature sensor and a problem with the throttle body.
Both of these are problems which are reported on the A2 owners forums and similarly on the Polo forums for cars with the same engine.
I returned it to the supplying dealer today and just got a call to say they are able to fix the coolant sensor problem but are unable to fix the other because it is too specialist for them. They say I must take the car to an Audi dealer to be diagnosed and repaired.
Clearly this is a tad annoying because the dealer who supplied the car is more-or-less admitting they're incapable of fixing the problem.
I would have thought that it is reasonable to expect a large dealership to be able to fix faults with cars they supply?
The service manager has said that if I want to complain it should be via email to the dealer principle, but before I do so I thought I'd ask the PH collective if they feel I'm right to be annoyed by this?
What can I do?
Whilst I know a good independent specialist who would be able to do the work, I'll still be out of pocket as his labour rate is higher than what the warranty company will pay.
Just checked on the web and sadly A-Vans Hallsore dont have any VW/Audi dealers in their network.

Indeed it does.
However, they want ME to take the car to the Audi dealer.
The guy on the phone pretty much told me they'd read the fault code but werent' going to try and fix it because they had no idea what it could be.
I'm 90% sure that it's the butterfly valve in the throttle body which is clogged - Its a common fault on this engine and many other VW engines (this engine is also fitted to the Polo). It can be resolved with a good clean but to take it off is apparently a 3-4 hour job.
