Anything but let the missus drive...
Discussion
I'm a daily commuter in the week.
I drive to station, park car, get train. You know the drill.
But I often (and I mean daily) see the following:
1) guy drives to station, gets out of car, says 'goodbye' to wifey and goes into station. Wifey climbs across from passenger seat (or walks round) and drives home or
2) guy arrives at station, wife is waiting to pick him up....sat in passenger seat....he drives home.
Why?
Is it the 1800s?

Because they only have one car, man doesnt need it when he is on the train / at work. Woman needs it to go shopping, pick up kids, go to her own job etc
If she has the time to take him each day its cheaper than paying for two cars. And they are paying tax etc just to have a car sit in a station car park all week.
I wouldnt do this personally, I have 3 cars but it does make some sense.

He drives to station, she then takes car to drive to work... then she goes and picks him up on the way home from work?
I acknowledge such circumstances exist. But it doesn't explain why he has/needs to drive to the station when she's taking the car for the rest of the day...He drives to station, she then takes car to drive to work... then she goes and picks him up on the way home from work?
I was just thinking some men, might not like other people seeing them driven by a wimmins.
Dunno. Am sure that's not the case.
I've noticed this with a few of my friends. There are generally a few points which they cover.
1) The guy enjoys driving and the OH doesnt.
2) Somehow the guy manages to get many more MPG than the OH
3) Its the guys car, and he pays for it to be run, therefore has priority in driving it when they are both able to drive the car.

I'm not a good passenger.
I suffer from an OCD type thing when I'm a passenger, and will compulsively correct the drivers mistakes if I am in the front passenger seat. I really can't stop doing it. I'm not a good passenger.
My OH is a very good driver, if not observant enough IMO (sh*t there I go again!), and she has owned a series of top cars that would have some on here drooling. She absolutely refuses to drive with me in the front of the car.

This. SWMBO drives herself 30 miles to work and back everyday, copes with going shopping and visiting friends and family on her own, but she will not drive with me in the car unless I have had a drink and can't. I'm not a good passenger.
Added to which I enjoy driving so genuinely don't mind.
I can only be a passenger with my wife driving if i'm pissed. Even then, it's easier to fall asleep than stay awake and worry!
She is a terrible driver that speeds in the wrong places, rides the clutch- not a little bit but full on 3500rpm & ride all the way to 20mph!, selects the wrong gears when pulling away- hence riding the clutch, gets boxed in on dual carrigeways, doesn't read the road, can't park, curbs the wheels at every given opportunity, manages to hit local road funiture that's been in the same place for the last 10 years & cannot brake smoothly- she hits the brakes, we hit the windscreen, then smash back into the seats before the next liberal application of Ferodo's finest.
Those are good enough reasons to drive whenever the chance arises.
I've tried talking to her- even suggested further training (which went well
), then have told her, then shouted at her, then given up. It's not worth the hassle & one of the reasons I sold the Cupra so quickly. We'd had it all of 2 days before she took it out for the first time. By the time I had got back from work, she had managed to cut the side wall on one tyre & badly curb the lip & faces of the spokes on 3 wheels. To be fair to her, they were 18" and wearing rubber band P-Zeros, but decided it would be best to buy a car I couldn't give two s
ts about- hence the Passat. In the space of 18months, she's managed to curb 2 wheels, spider crack the pain on the back bumper, dent & mildly scrape the rear 1/4panel, graze the front bumper, take the paint off the o/s/r of the bumper.
I have to laught at it now or else i'll cry
