Halfords is seldom the cheapest supplier of anything. Look around.

Hmmm, in the small print it says:
All plates unless specifically requested (documentation required) are sold as "show use" and/or "off road use" and therefore we cannot be held responsible for illegal use of these plates on the road, by choosing "buy it now" you are agreeing to these terms and conditions of sale, We cannot be held responsible for any fines or convictions resulting from using these plates for any purpose but for the one for which they were designed.

I wonder if that's to cover them supplying plates without seeing the logbook?

On the ad it says:

PLEASE NOTE: Buy clicking the buy it now you agree to the plates being made to the current regulations (100% road legal) i.e Legal spacing, Suppliers Name and Postcode (in small writing at bottom of plate) and the BS mark.

So surely once they are on the car they are legal?

Pay the extra £1 and get these ones:

Never had any trouble with the seller, they're top quality and definitely 100% road legal.

Also has that small print but the plates are definitely legal.

Again at the bottom of the listing in small print:
All plates unless specifically requested (documentation required) are sold as "show use" and/or "off road use" and therefore we cannot be held responsible for illegal use of these plates on the road, by choosing "buy it now" you are agreeing to these terms and conditions of sale, We cannot be held responsible for any fines or convictions resulting from using these plates for any purpose but for the one for which they were designed.

Fair enough, but how would you ever get into trouble for buying them from there?

BiB aren't going to stop you because your plates are legal, you won't fail an MoT because your plates are legal, etc.

My main reason for preferring that seller is that I know they deliver (I've bought 10+ sets of plates from them, next day delivery) and I prefer the GB badge to cover the entire part of the plate it's on with no white/yellow border around it.

Nice links. Thanks.

I was planning on getting some numbers plates with GB and Euro sign as I am planning a roadtrip to France and really don't want to paste on a sticker saying GB on my car.

That's not really the way it works. See below, taken from another site,

"If you require a differently spaced or designed acrylic plate or a metal plate then we have to sell this as a sign, for off road use. We place a disclaimer on the back advising you that it is sold as a sign, and it is not to be fitted to any vehicle using the UK roads."

So the rozzers can always tell if a plate is legally made or not. It will either have proper BS markings and the supplier's postcode on the front (legal) or on the back will be some kind of indication that the plate was sold for use as a "show" plate only.

Seller I linked to above's plates come with the required markings and no disclaimer present on the back of the plates:

Regsitered Number Plate Suppliers cannot supply anything other than totally legal, legal plates, colours and format. If they do they risk a £10k fine and you risk being pulled up for it. How much are the ebay ones and how much are Halfords? Straight plates or 3D text with badges etc?

Have bought lots of plates from here, probably over 20 sets. Never had a problem with quality and very fast delivery too. All cars have gone through MOT's with no problems regarding font, spacing, etc.

(and no, I'm not associated with the seller in anyway!)
