Is it just me, or does Audi's lazy Russian Doll inspired design philosophy completely screw up your spatial awareness?

You just have no idea what model it is coming at you and therefore that Audi sat behind you in the outside lane of a busy motorway is either a director in an A8 with comfortably set radar cruise control, or a middle manager in a 1.9TDi A3 sat up your chuff being all thrusting.

The other day I almost pulled out in front of an Audi A1 cos I thought it was a bigger Audi but further away - I'm honestly not joking. eek

Slight exaggeration there.

Just like when people say you can't tell an Aston Martin apart. You can.

Not after a brief glance when you're concentrating on driving.

ETA: I'd have a A5 in a heartbeat if I hadn't heard they were rubbish to drive*

*=and could afford one.....

There easy enough to tell apart, first one looks like an A5, possibly a sportback, second is an 08 facelift a3 with the optional led drls and xenons.

Your depth and distance perception are a function of your brain calculating the small differences between what each of your two eyes see, not the size of the viewed object. I'd see an optician if I were you.

Have you considered getting out a bit more?

It's not even hard to tell the difference between an A3 and an A5, or maybe I also need to get out more.

to be fair I thought the number plates on those two kind of gave the models away...

ETA - At least Audi's look different from behind, I was following an A1 the other day and the back is a right bodge job imo.

I've considered starting a similar thread, so I know what the OP is on about. When you casually glance in your rear-view mirror it's not that easy to tell one model of Audi from another.

Is it an A6 bearing down on you at a rate of unfathomable knots? No, it'll be a 1.9 TDI A3.

It's all good and well looking at a picture on your computer monitor and seeing the difference, but when it's an Audi shaped speck rapidly increasing in size in your mirrors, it's a different ball game.

Who cares if it's a Fiat Panda or a Veyron?

If I'm in any other lane than lane one then I'll move over as soon as I can as not to impede others making progress. The model of car doesn't even enter into the equation.

I have the same problem with the Volvo C30/V50/S40, never assumed they were further away than they were, but often expected more car to travel past.

the easiest ones to mix up are Audi A4/A5/A6/A8, especially with LED DRL's that blind you in any case.

I keep seeing a black A7 and it does look lovely IMHO, I'm not an Audi fan but I like that car.
