Hello all, I think this might be better off posted in the Ford subforum but considering there have only been three replies to all posts there today, I thought I'd try my luck here as this is a far more heavily visited area.
The question I have is about a Focus Zetec 1.6. My neighbour called me said car wouldn't start etc etc etc.Checked there was spark , yes. Listened for whirr of fuel pump , yes. Airways and breather pipes clear ,yes. All fuses present and correct , yes. Pulled cambelt cover off belt not rotating we have a winner.
Considering the proliferation of Foci on the roads (mk1 52) would it be more economical to source a new lump or replace the head or rebuild the existing one ? Also what is the einstein level for this job , would it be something a logical sensible person could attempt with a how to guide or job best left to the pros. My neighbours are good people but dont have much money and as they have helped us on many occasions I would like to repay the favor.
I would appreciate your feedback, if you need more details or if I have not been concise enough in my descriptions please ask .

Many thanks

To be honest he would be better off just replacing it. I reckon the cost of fitting the engine will be greater than the cost of another one.

I highly doubt I can be helpful, but...

any idea why the belt isn't rotating? no chance it's snapped? I can't see why the cylinder head would be the problem here.

I'd try a belt first relativly inexpensive,it may have stripped the teeth on the crank pulley part of belt and not bent anything, had this before and even more so as it would not start so not turning quick when it expired.

We had a 1.6 focus that the cambelt had snapped somehow it only bent a couple of valves, once we replaced them it ran fine.

Would the general concensus be to remove the belt first then and check where the wear is? If its just wear on the teeth of the belt on the crank pulley end would it still be necessary to inspect the head or not. It was turning over very slowly. Would it be relatively simple to replace the belt if that is the case, also (apologies in advance for being a moron)what else would need replacing ie: tensioners water pump etc...?
