2.5 Vectra GSi was always the cooler car in period imo.

I had one as a company car from new in 2000 and then bought it off the company when it was 3 years old.

Personally I loved it, it was a very rare car, I think only 150(ish) made it to the UK in estate form. The full leather Recaro seats were comfortable and I drove it down to southern Spain several times fully loaded for summer holidays. MPG was always around 27 which was pretty much the same as the previous 2.5 V6 Ghia X Mondeo I'd had before.

For it's time it was plenty quick enough and handled reasonably well enough. With the rear seats down it was pretty good at lugging crap around. I used it a lot in its early life and put 127k miles on it in the first 5 years.

It needed a replacement gearbox at 190k miles, (picked one up off ebay for pocket change money) but other than than it was pretty much standard servicing for the whole of its life.

Eventually, for me, it was the rust that killed it off, mainly underneath, with a lot hidden by the plastic cills along with the head gasket going. The garage owner who I used bought it off me and spent weeks with a welder and sorting the engine and eventually got it through an MOT before selling it on to another customer, he did give me first dibs though. I saw it about locally for another couple years.

It's last MOT ran out in Dec 2015 and I've guessing it was the rust again that was the final nail although it had done 209,997 miles... Reasons for failure were given as:

Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3)
Nearside Front Headlamp aim beam image obviously incorrect (1.8.A.1b)
Offside Rear wheel bearing rough when rotated (2.6.1)
Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded sill (2.4.A.3)
Offside Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded sill (5.2.6)
Nearside Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded sill (5.2.6)
Offside Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded sill (5.2.6)
Rear Brake pipe inadequately supported (3.6.B.1)

It made a good garage partner in its day smile

4k would be fair(ish) if it was 76k.

...and not horribly rusty.

If that was offered to me in part exchange (with a decent MOT) it would probably see 500 quid.

I was never all that fond of the estate, but I would love the hatchback ST200 version though. I've always really liked the Recaro seats in these as well.

Same here. The estates never really did it for me, but I quite liked the hatch back in the day.

This looks quite expensive given the mileage and the state of the arches.

Oooops, didn't see the rusty bits mentioned. Your offer seems about right now lol.

My brother had a regular hatchback modeo of this era. It was incredibly durable but I wouldn't want to rely on one as daily transport today.

£4K is probably okay for a car this rare, if you like them, and it's peanuts compared with the space you need to keep it.

The same car is on Ebay for £3.7K..

Estate or otherwise this is probably not that bad a price on the hatch...

This looks pretty ok, but I'd struggle to pay £7.5K for it...

A "fast Ford". Once upon a time maybe reasonably brisk but most cars on the road will be a better/faster steer these days.

I’ve had and enjoyed loads of Fords but I’d have to say I’d go for the ST200 Vectra rather than the Mondeo …. or a 2.5 GSi Vectra if I couldn’t get an ST200

When they came out I can remember being in the back of one with a friend whilst his dad was doing a tonne fifty on a private road thinking he was John Cleland.
