I would like to refer back to previous sugestion. Bidding a million Pounds on the item so we win and turn up to collect it with the RS Owners Club baseball team.

I have a 'disposable' eBay account I can use for this purpose, but to be fair all that will do it outbide the next highest bidder by a fiver, then he's free to do a second chance offer to the runner up.
Not if his keyboard fingers don't work due to a freak Baseball accident. These things happen. wink

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/theshaddow122/&_trks...

I've just been sent this by someone who though they'd send a message...

eBay message said:
Dear theshaddow122,

I found a link to this item on the Pistonhead forum in a thread about eBay listed vehicle ringing kits. If you don't want to spend up to five years in prison as an accessory to a car theft I'd remove the item before it gets forwarded to the Police Vehicle Crimes unit.

All the best.

I WILL PUT IN THE LISTING THAT THE SHELL IS BEYOND REPAIR AND NEW HERITAGE SHELLS ARE AVAILABLE IF THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER??
eBay reply said:
As if people who can afford a Heritage shell would buy just the vin plates and log book. You know this identity will go on to a car that will be either stolen or previously writen off car. If you're comfortable with that then what does it say about the rest of your items?
The eBay user removed theshaddow122's item from their watch list because they felt he/she weren't trust worthy and forwarded the messages to me to put on here.

Sorry but I feel the people who sell these items may as well steal the car themselves. frown

Looking at...

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/theshaddow122/&_trks...

...other items he/she is obviously a trader and not only should know better but who's to say he/she hasn't done and got away with it before? I wonder if my friends who work for the Inland Revenue know about their little side business? scratchchin

I'm all for the principal of what you guys are doing, but I can't help wonder why all the V5s for sale are for old cars?

Mk1/2 Escorts? Morris Minors? Original Minis?

I would expect the cars that are say 2~4 years old to be "worth" [1] nicking, ringing and selling for £10k profit to be worth it, not a 1975 Mini worth £300?

[1] From the criminals point of view of course, not mine or anyone here.

a) princIPLE
b) you should have a look at the values of classic cars sometime. There's a reason they're being stolen from lockups.

The other reason new cars are less easily cloned is that the Police are not able to identify whether an old car has been cloned as readily. You need a classic expert and there are very few of those.

How many PHers could tell a 1960 mini shell from a 1984 shell?

Few and the same is true of the Police. And repairs are inevitable on an old Mini shell. A chassis number obscured by rust is readily cleaned up. Nothing appears amiss on inspection. A new plate inserted on a new car stand out all too readily.

Cloning new cars successfully require a much higher degree of skill. The classics are much easier. And much less likely to attract attention.

Guys just a reminder rule of posting No. 4 clearly states, you will not:-

"Use the forums to harass anyone, including but not limited to posting personal or private information, photos etc without permission from the person to which such information, photos etc relates."

So no personal details or the post will get removed.

As you were...........smile

Not illegal, as the ID can stay with the complete shell.

It won't be eligible to retain it's ID once built up with other parts, but at this stage, what he's doing it perfectly legal.

I'be sent them probably 20 e-mails and had no response to any. I guess they have so much information they can't respond to every message.
