Outrageous Java Green Abt RS Q8-R for sale

740hp and one of only two right-handers built. You wanna standout, right?

Let’s be honest: nobody buys a coupe SUV of any description to blend in. They’re as much about the design impact as anything else, surely - otherwise, why not have the conventional SUV equivalent? When there’s an X5 M as well as an X6 M, a Cayenne Turbo as well as a Cayenne Turbo Coupe and a GLE AMG as well as a GLE Coupe AMG, the demand is clearly there for those super SUVs that really stand out. It’s notable, moreover, that cars like the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX - the really expensive, super-fast ones - lean much more to the coupe side of things than the traditional SUV silhouette. The success of this very lucrative niche feels predicated on maximum possible visual punch. The more outlandish, the better. And boy, can we do outlandish…

This is an Audi RS Q8. Or rather, it was one. Now it’s an Abt RSQ8-R, and that’s a rather more serious prospect. There have been a few R models from Abt of late, representing the ultimate evolution of each model range. For the RS3, that meant a whopping 500hp, and the RS6 equivalent had almost 700lb ft of torque. They were rare, expensive, and unmistakeably Abt; mean and moody fast Audis on big wheels with next to no ground clearance.

Much is the same for this RS Q8. Abt employed the same upgrades here as for the RS6-R, meaning beefier turbos, a new intercooler, a less restrictive exhaust and an ECU fettling for the 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, mild hybrid V8. The result of that was an obscene 740hp, meaning 2.3-tonnes of Audi SUV could reach 62mph in 3.4 seconds. That was in addition to a host of carbon goodies, a dramatic ride height drop on giant 23-inch wheels, and four exhaust pipes the size of manhole covers.

Also like the RS6, Abt converted just 125 RSQ8s to -R spec, and they all sold out. This is one of them, and it’s notable for a few reasons. Yes, it’s painted the colour of Hulk’s hot hatch (Java Green, in fact), but it’s also one of just two ever made in right-hand drive. So none of the stress of driving a huge left-hand drive car over here, and more capacity to focus on keeping those incredible 23-inch wheels in pristine condition. With that power and that ride height, this is surely going to be a wild ride. Remember the RS Q8 shares a lot of important bits with cars like the Urus and Cayenne, and neither of those has more than 660hp…

Commendably, this one has done 8,000 miles in a year, somebody clearly keen to embrace the Abt attitude to the fullest. Go big or go home, right? Certainly, it won’t have been a cheap endeavour, both in terms of getting the job done and keeping a 740hp Q8 in consumables. The -R package typically added tens of thousands to a base price, with residuals kept strong by the rarity and the prestige attached to a car from the best-known Audi tuner around. That’s no different for the RSQ8, because this mean green machine is for sale at the very best part of £200k - £194,991, to be precise.

Which, of course, is a huge amount of money, about twice what could be paid for a standard RS from 2021. But think of it another way: there are only a couple of Uruses around for less money than this, there’s a Cayenne Turbo GT for sale at £185k, and most DBX707s are £200k. The Abt is a lot, but it’s in the super silly SUV ballpark - with more power than all of them. And if making every single passerby stop and stare is a requirement, there’s surely nothing else out there on four wheels to best the Q8.

Wow!! The way it sits in the advert completely defeats the point of an SUV (not that this would be any good off road) I did read the advert and it adjustable coilovers.

Truly vile

Likely an former footballers car, the garage is in Prestbury. They have a McLaren Senna in stock for nine quid under a million.

Reckon they'll give me a test drive if I turn up in my well-used 10 year old Swift Sport?

Cars like this haven't actually been "off roaders" for years - it's a triple XL oversized hot hatch, though most are actually cosplaying MPVs. Viewed that way, it's not the most stupid thing ever - RS3 blown up to ridiculousness. I still wouldn't though

Rank.

Particular highlights are the spindly rims that look like they'll shatter hitting a pebble, with a color coded inner ring to highlight the awfulness

I'm sitting at home listening to one of the local tts ragging the tits off his E63 through through the 20mph zones over and over again. Utter fukcing bellend. He'd love this car. Along with that bloke that killed his passenger on the A40 showing off in his RRS.
