Has your insurance gone up?
Discussion
I got my renewal from Admiral last week and it had increased 25% (not due to any changes on my end).
I shopped around and got it 25% cheaper elsewhere.
I call Admiral to cancel the renewal, they ask why, explain the economy is bad (literally, the guy tried to give me a 60 second lesson on economics) and tried the usual retention pitch. I said thanks but no thanks, please cancel renewal. Okay, done, sorry to see you go etc etc.
My new insurer than asks for proof of NCB, so I log in to my still-active Admiral account to download it, and lo and behold, they renewed it anyway
So I had to ring up to cancel it again, they apologised and said it was now done, and they don't think the ~£600 renewal price will be taken from my payment card, but if it is, to give them a wee ring back.
This is generally what happens when you deal with the cheap, basic insurers...

I had the retention spiel from Admiral when I called to cancel the auto renewal. Isn’t it strange how you can do many policy changes and updates on the app but not cancel the renewal?I shopped around and got it 25% cheaper elsewhere.

I had the ‘Oh, if you’re thinking of leaving we can do better on the price, it’d be £x cheaper’, an offer I declined and told them I’d expect the best price on renewal, not when calling to cancel so I’m still leaving.
You have to speak to somebody to cancel; I think it's some kind of legal transaction requirement. But amendments / alterations, not. I always opt for not automatic renewal nowadays although some companies don't include the option to deny it. Some companies are a disaster to get through to and if they want your business, they will call you.
Looking for quotes on a multi car policy as this years renewal is up from £550 to £930. Tried online with Admiral and Avila.
Having spent quite some time filling in the various pages of requested info, get to the end and a statement appears that they won’t provide a quote for one of the cars.
Wish they would say that once the car details are known rather than at the end of a lengthy process.
Grrrrr

Because people generally care about TTRS in general and look after them, therefore don’t often claim. They don’t however care about POS mondeos (or other cheap cars) and the claim stats reflect that. Now this is the head scratcher my other car renewal within 3 weeks of above

Worth remembering you can pretty much as easily cause 6 figure damage in your shed as you can a sports car. All depends what you hit or any injury you cause.
Not so much a case of my insurance going up as some anomalies with quotes...
I ran a quote last weekend for a BMW 440i. £430/year if I insure it on or after 25 March, but £560/year if I insure it before 25 March. I get that insurance companies take a dim view of people who get a renewal quote at the last minute, because they're more likely to be disorganised, haphazard people who are more likely to have an accident, but surely if you're looking to buy a car the you'll probably want to insure it within a week or so of discovering the right one, so there won't be much time from quote to policy start, but this will be nothing to do with you being a flaky individual.

Can’t remember where I heard it but I was under the impression that getting quotes for your renewal was best done around 3 weeks before?
21 days was the magic number quoted by M.Lewis. Will be interesting once mine appears from the broker, x1 non fault and x1 malicious damage claim are disappearing having been more than 5 yrs of possible impacted premiums.
The annoying thing is the malicious damage one was info only....

I see it's a thing with Admiral then?
Did they go on a customer recruitment drive last year or something and are now in the process of raping those same customers. I guess they can calculate the percentage that won't leave despite the massive increases.

I added an extra car to my Admiral multicar policy last month, and the total cost actually went down! Perhaps I got lucky?

I'd already done my research and paid for my next policy before I rang up to cancel the renewal.
The fact you can't cancel the renewal online is clearly a deliberate stalling tactic.

This year it was about £50 more for the Cayman. So approx £550 instead of £500.
The insurer I left wasn’t Admiral, so it seems that cost pressures are across the board. Annoying!
A 10% increase doesn't even cover inflation so that's explainable and reasonable. The insurer I left wasn’t Admiral, so it seems that cost pressures are across the board. Annoying!
The increases Admiral customers like myself we seeing was a 2/3rds increase with no change other than 1 years extra NCB.

Apparently my ~25% price increase included a 20% 'loyalty discount', so would've been an even pricier renewal otherwise. I get the sense the sales person expected me to be grateful of that fact...I had the ‘Oh, if you’re thinking of leaving we can do better on the price, it’d be £x cheaper’, an offer I declined and told them I’d expect the best price on renewal, not when calling to cancel so I’m still leaving.
Admiral here too, gone up by about £200, from £205 to over £400. Rang and all they would offer is £25 off if I removed the named driver on the policy (the wife). I wouldn't put her in there if I didn't think it was needed. Anyway, did a search and got £179 with Tesco, 5 star defacto, so not a crap policy.
