Engine oil, 0w 40 better than 5w 30 ? part or full synthetic

I really appreciate the info given here guys, love learning new stuff.
Well with this being my first turbo engine vehicle and the van having not had a oil change for 20k before this one (since it has 45k there is a chance it might have only had 2 changes after the Run In period!), I think I will running this thinner oil for the winter, dump it in the spring and use 5w30 full syth next summer then do another chance before winter with filter for the thinner stuff and reduce to yearly changes. Hopefully I might pull some crap out of the engine doing that (I do that with old bikes with no filters) and I can sleep/drive happier.
Might all be psychosomatic but it makes me feel better, and if I were buying a vehicle and the last owner told me they did things like that I would be extremely happy.
