997 Turbo- Tell me the worst!
Discussion
Had about 5 years out if Porsche ownership (funny, my eldest boy is 5!) havering owned lots of 996 gen 911's and quite a few boxsters & cayman's from that era upto 2006. I'm looking to get back into a Porsche, hopefully an 08 ish 997 turbo, circa 30-40k mls, I'm being told these are pretty robust?? Any advice welcome.
(I had originally planned on a gen1 C4s but cylinder score horror stories have put me off)

Have the 08 Gen1 997tt myself, owned 18 months and only added 8000 miles to its 20k when I bough it, no issues at all. There's a recall on this model, usually done during a service (mines due in March so it can wait)
Awesome motor, comfy for all day driving, 1st gear too short IMO, loud pedal is addictive, many people complain about lack of exhaust note, it's true but it really doesn't bother me.
Manuals are pretty rare but are around if you prefer to change gear yourself, mines manual and wouldn't buy auto unless a pdk but still would prefer manual
I'm not a high mileage user so someone may be along to add their higher mileage experience.
Regards

Reassuring then thanks, it's a manual I'm looking for, like you not really a tip fan, haven't tried a pdk. I'll be doing 4-5k a year in it. Not driven one yet, hopefully test driving one Saturday, but have heard they're quiet, quieter then a normal carrera? I do like a bit of noise (had a factory SE on my old C4S and a bonkers loud set of fabspeed Gt pipes on my C4) what are the options on the turbo? Can you still do a bypass or is it new system time?
Truthfully, I have no idea.
There seems to be a few posts around with people's opinions on certain pipes and no doubt 'you tube' may have a few.
I'm also a biker, so if I were to change the exhaust it would be too my make if choice 'Akropovich' but there systems are 7k and i'll never warrant such an expense for a different sound.
Enjoy the test drive, your opinion of the 997tt will be interesting given your previous rides as mine was a 986 3.2 I don't have much to compare it too.

If you are going for a "manuel" as opposed to tip, insist on a rev history printout to get some idea on the cars history.
This will invariably govern whether the car will be sold with a warranty.......
Is one over rev permitted or have I made that up? This will invariably govern whether the car will be sold with a warranty.......
This is the car in looking at tomorrow

There are plenty of nice cars around at recognised marque specialists. . . . .
lovely car you're looking at. its a shame this other car is so expensive as it has lsd, short shift and ceramics which are rare options. Way too expensive compared to rest of market but perhaps vendor is flexible re pricing. Nice spec car though. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

The seller did contact me about this car but yes it's out of my price range. Paragon have my perfect car in (GT silver with cocoa, sport classics , carbon buckets etc etc) but that's also £55k and out of my budget Edited by IMI A on Saturday 16th November 07:59

Not really. Get it checked out anyway by OPC or Fearnsport.
^ This. The later lights/rear bumper seem to be a popular upgrade. The missing badge could be something as simple as the car having been detailed and it not replaced, or a simple de-badge job (or torn off whilst drying/washing the car)Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
