Something that was picked up with my MOT today, one of the rear silencer exhaust straps was split right throught and the other one closely following. Is it an easy job to change myself and are the straps easy to source? (I knew I shouldn't have started looking at wheels).

Hi, the straps are not easily replaceable as they run underneath some heat shields which won't come off easily!

The exhaust has to be removed. Post a picture up of it.

Hi, yes those are the straps that are not easy and cheap to replace.

Me personally I would get the straps TIG welded back together whilst still on the car.

You may have to remove bumper and cut the securing bolt off the strap and replace it.

The other option is to replace it BUT this is a real pain as the exhaust has to be removed and all heat shields which will cost a fair amount of money... If you are thinking of a sports exhaust then this is the ideal time!

Thanks for the info Mike. Welding seems like a good idea. I am thinking of a sports exhaust - Milltek - but am based in France so it is not so easy to go and get one fitted with the necessary remap. Welding would give me more time. I assume the next drive out will be for the welding and no go until it is fixed?

Does the exhaust look on it's last legs from the images?

Also does the underneath look 'normal' I am an anorak for the upkeep of my car and the rusty bolts etc niggle me?

Hi, can't really see anything cleary on the pictures. Looks like the exhaust has been scraped along floor especially in area of clamp.
