GT3 coolant expansion tank?

Just received a new coolant reservoir for my 996 GT3. By the sound of it there's something loose inside. Is there somekind of valve built in there which has some loose parts or what? I can hear that "rolling" sound when I turn the tank upside down in my hands. Or is it defective already?

Two 996 GT3's blew their coolant tanks here last summer. Thought I should change mine befor it goes as well..

About to do mine too, and the easily accessible hoses.

Mike (Sports and Classic) should be able to tell you if the rattle is normal.

Hi,

The noise you hear is a magnet inside a chamber, it is there to activate the low level sensor (magnetic reed switch) when coolant level drops.

Thanks Mike for your reply. I sort of figured it out when I had a closer look of it in the bright daylight. The magnet can be seen moving when tilting the tank. Glad I don't have to send it back!

Where is the best place to source these guys ? Design 911 have genuine ones at £180+vat or non OE at £108+vat (996.1)
ECPs have OE quality at £145 all in (through carparts4less).

I would stick to an OPC one. There have been several revisions to this part in order to strengthen the webbing around it. I'm not sure how you would confirm that any non-Porsche one would be to the latest design.

My car is MY2001 and the coolant tank was 106€. For MY2000 cars it seems to be 220€?? I would have thought they have identical coolant tanks..
