So took the RS out today for the 1st time in a while. It sits on a Cetek and have noticed the light being mainly on orange rather than green. After 10 mins I get warning on the dash 'Battery charge failure' then later followed by 'ABS and Brake Distribution Failure'.
I'm thinking a new battery may sort it?
I called JZM, need to call Steve Mchale (top bloke) Monday to discuss as I bought car last June from them so need to get it plugged in to check.
JZM a fair distance from me so thinking its just a new battery and getting a new one will resolve all these issues?
Also after leaving the car for 5mins the ABS issues vanished from the check list and I noticed whilst driving the Bluetooth had disconnected itself then reconnected which makes me think it'd a battery issue.
Any tips wud be great tks

mine did the same last year, turned out to be the alternator not charging the battery after standing still for 2 years.

Think the orange little on the trickle charge is indicating a new battery is required also.

doubt the alternator will be covered under warranty.... best check the small print.

My sequence of events on a trip to Silverstone went like -

Nice drive down, stopped on m6 toll for coffee - returned to car would not start.
Bump started car and all appeared well.
Got to silverstone, did a sighting lap and battery light came on.
did a fast lap and ABS lights came on.
Got car to pits and alarm kept going off whilst driving.
Car parked and would not start or move!!
RAC had to take me home.

in 10 years i have had 2 new batteries, mine is now permanantly orrange so think its time for a new one, other cars in garage are green so must need a new battery.

Tks Barry. So you think alternator and battery? What's an alternator cost? What car did it happen on with you. ?

2004 996 RS - i think its your alternator (£800) and new battery possibly because as you have said the orange light is perm on. Hope i am wrong!!

If it's like a normal 996 or Boxster (can't see why it wouldn't be) then the regulator on the alternator is what usually fails - between £20 & £50 I think, plus time to remove the alternator then replace it (probably later, if it has to go to away to auto electrical place for test, then (hopefully) replacement of regulator and re-test).

If it's you alternator might be worth seeing if you can get it rebuilt locally,

I had mine done last week, took 1/2 hour if that to remove and cost £120 to rebuild with new bearings and voltage regulator.

The guy that did it said that bosch alternators are keeping him busy
