996 Sudden Death !!! Help !!!
Discussion
Hi Guys
My 996 (52) has just died on me, after driving all day. Went to see somebody and forgot that i left my phone on charge, came back 45 mins later and put the key in ignition turned it, the alarm went off. Then came complete death, sudden silence. No lights, no ticking over, no phone charger light. NO LIFE.
AA recovery sent out local recovery company, the chap put the voltage meter which red 12v, battery fully charged, then he brought the powerpack . NOT A THING.
Then came the next question " need to get a lowbed for you mate? "
"oh cheers m8".
Has anybody gone through this hell?
Any technical minds?
Replys much appreciated.

If the battery is fully charged it could be a corroded earth cable from the engine to body (driver side) or the one from the battery to the bulkhead, this happened to mine in the middle of Austria, it had corroded and was green at the bulkhead and had come away from the crimp connector. Try a jump lead from the battery earth pole to a clean area of the body and see if that works.
Had a similar problem with my 944, admittedly a very different beast but was the earth. ( actually just the battery connector in my case) check this is nice and tight then the earth of the starter motor. Fuses would be a good place to look too but would be surprised if the aa man didn't do this.... Good luck
I had something similar once. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery it was sorted. My best guess to the cause was that as I had my mobile on the passenger seat just above where the security module is, its internal operation had been temporarily jilted. Never happened again.
