996 mk1 GT3 track tyres
Discussion
Hi all,
The time has come to replace he R888 tyres I have been using on track days for a while. I found the tyres ok, but then I have heard other tyres handle the heat better.
The rear size of 285/30/18 leaves little choice so what are other people using ? Has anyone tried the Yokohama advan neova AD08r ?

My friend runs the mk2 sizes (235 front, 295 rear) on his mk1 car (with mk1 split rims) with no problem whatsoever. He uses Michelin Cups and PS2's. I have been using the Pirelli Trofeos on my Mk2 and absolutely love them.
Definitely gives you a far wider choice by moving up to the next size.

michelin pilot sport cups all the time, albeit not so good for very wet days
bin the r888s they overheat i hear
I have run cups now for around 2 years and have to say that their grip level in very wet conditions is pretty good.bin the r888s they overheat i hear
I have done Spa-francorchamps in the very wet and the level of grip was very surprising and I was finding more grip than most on the day.
Certainly on my 996 GT3 the tyre feedback is brilliant and you know when you are asking too much from them!
Four passengers all said the same thing, how smooth the car was and how much more grip I was finding compared to the other cars they had been passengers in that day.
By no means are they a full wet tyre but they do have grip on circuit in the very wet.
Standing water on a motorway at 70mph probably would end badly.

Yes thats fair. On new cups i found the grip at spa in the wet surprising too. But when you get that tread under 3mm it gets twitchy and like you say standing water is now fun. I drive to all my trackdays with these tyres on. Just a dab of care on the wet motorways seems sensible.
