Hey Porsche folks

I've just bought the grey/Red GT3RS 3.8 from GC motors and am looking forward to picking it up this weekend, call it a valentines gift to myself! It has a bit of an issue though, someone, either with arguably questionable taste or perhaps not wanting to be seen in Porsches finest, has added dark window tinting film.

Naturally I want the car as Porsche intended it so I asked for the film to be removed.

Some company have arrived and duly removed the tints, except they say they CANNOT REMOVE IT from the plexiglass rear window, because both items are plastic they have bonded permanently - WTF..!

I'm
1. Not sure if I buy their story? Can anyone advise? Has anyone been through this before?
2. Wondering how much a replacement plexiglass rear window might cost?

Any help would be much apprecaited

Thanks!

Steve

Well done - great car

The tint bonding to the plastic might not be bull...see quote

Can window film be applied to plexiglass or plastic windows?
Standard window films should not be applied to acrylic or polycarbonate (plexiglass) windows. These are plastic sheeting products and they all have the potential to outgas. Heat and visible light from the sun causes “outgassing”. Outgassing is the release of chemical components and/or moisture absorbed by the plastic. The outgassing interferes with the window film’s adhesive system, and results in bubbling between the plastic window and the window film

It should also be noted that many window film adhesive systems, when applied to plastics, will create a permanent bond. In the event that the film should have to be removed, it will be almost impossible to remove the film completely without damaging surface of the plexiglass window.

Good info thanks all, I did have some concerns about GCM, but GT3RS's seem to be getting quite hard to come by and it was the spec I would have chosen if Id ordered one new

Also , despite several attemps nobody here on the forums was able to dig up any dirt on this car so far.

If I can get a window for about £1K that would be good news, I have a Challenge Stradale too (up for sale soon) and was quoted £3K to replace that plastic rear window!

If anyone wants to buy a lightweight, tinted RS rear window cheap, let me know! :O)

Congratulations on your purchase! Let's see some pictures when you have them.

Not much I can add on the plastic screen other than given the rear wing size and position you can't see much out of the back even without tints!

Fortunately, between the cage and the rear wing the view through the back is sufficiently bad that you will be using the door mirrors for all of your rearward visibility purposes in no time thumbup

I dont want to alarm you and apologise if im wrong but isnt the company you are buying from known to have sold a couple of accident damaged cars recently one of which being a GT3?

Heres the porsche thread - http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The thread regarding the white R8 was deleted.

I would definitely get the car fully inspected prior to payment.

Precisely. And that's why one would take note of the sellers reputation.

(Apologies in advance for the bad joke)

I'd have a sticky issue too if I owned a GT3 RS clap

Enjoy the car if you do purchase it, but as said make sure it's a good one first.
